This past Sunday saw the Lightning travel to Kingston upon Hull to face fellow NFC newcomers, the Humber Warhawks in a pre-season friendly game.
A physical game, played in good spirits saw powerful performances from both defences over the first two Q, with the teams going into the break level at 0-0.
However, the Lightning finally broke the deadlock in the third Q, when Tight End and Kicker #80 Ross Conley hit a field goal to put the points on the board. HB #17 Reece Salkeld then secured victory with a Touchdown at the end of a big drive, with the extra point being blocked by the Warhawks.
Humber nearly made it back into the game in the fourth Q with their own claims for a Touchdown, however the catch by #6 Stuart Morgan was controversially ruled incomplete and the Lightning held on for their first ever competitive shut out.
The Lightning have awarded their own MVP award to #26 Safety Jordan Nellis, a rookie to the game as of January 2015 who marked his full game debut with an eye catching performance, including intercepting a ball and returning for 80 yards, knocking down a certain TD pass for Humber and as well as a powerful 70+ yard punt return.
Both teams now move onto their final preparations for their season openers in the coming weeks.
The Lightning would like to thank Humber for their hospitality and we wish them the best of luck for the upcoming season.
