Last Sunday saw Northumberland Lightnings first ever National League game, opening their season with a home fixture at Ashington Rugby Club against established league team the Glasgow Tigers.
After a physical game, Glasgow ran out 27-3 winners at FT, however the Lightning certainly put up a fight and left the field with their heads held high.
Glasgow opened the game with some powerful running, culminating in a TD on their first drive, but no PAT. Lightning responded positively, with a similarly powerful run game pushing the offence up to the 35 yard line, before TE Ross Conley converted a FG to make the score 6-3.
However, the Tigers experience then began to show and they ended up going into the break 21-3 after two further TDs.
3Q saw the Tigers find one final TD with an excellent passing move to leave the scores 27-3, before both teams held each other and battled through till the end.
Next up for the Lightning is a local derby against the Newcastle Vikings on April 26th 2015.
