As week 7 of the season approaches, the Lightning are preparing for arguably their toughest test yet, the West Coast Trojans.
It’s been a difficult start to league life for Northumberland, losing their first 3 matches to be 0-3, at the base of NFC North II. The opposite can be said for West Coast however, who are sitting top of the table after 3 comprehensive wins with a 3-0 record, racking up 136 points and only conceding 22 during those games.
So what should we expect this coming Sunday? Well, back in December 2014, the Trojans very kindly offered to bring their squad down to Ashington Rugby Club in the Lightnings final associate fixture, the game that helped them secure league status and actually helped make this fixture possible, so it’s not the first time the clubs have met.
In that fixture, West Coast ran out comfortable 58-0 winners. This time round, West Coast will be looking to add to that. They are playing hard this season with a point to prove, easily capable of a deep play-off run and will likely be aiming to pass the 200 mark on points scored for the season so far.
The Lightning however will need to use every last drop of sweat to hold them back and hope that their Offence, who are slowly finding their feet in the league, can finally click against the strongest defence in the league.
The game is scheduled for a 14:30 kick off this Sunday 17th May, with free entry for spectators and we will have updates and a match report on the day.
